The Multicultural Education and Languages Committee (MELC) is a ministerial advisory committee responsible for providing advice to the South Australian Minister for Education, Training and Skills on the interrelated areas of languages education, multicultural education and the internationalisation of education.

MELC's role and vision
MELC is committed to drawing on perspectives to strengthen the profile and uptake of languages by supporting and developing the capacity of schools in the teaching of languages. Creating opportunities for children and young people to develop linguistic and intercultural capabilities will help them to engage across diverse languages and cultures, and contribute as global citizens.
The Committee works in collaboration with educational organisations including universities, agencies and communities to share knowledge, expertise and perspectives to help achieve MELC’s functions.
MELC’s work has a strong focus on linguistic and cultural diversity and student inclusion and wellbeing. This approach is applied to all areas of education, from the early years through to tertiary-level.
