How we show our commitment
Our workplaces must be safe, respectful and inclusive.
At the department each employee shares responsibility for building a positive workplace culture that protects and enhances our wellbeing and the wellbeing of others.
Responding appropriately to violence and addressing gender stereotypes and inequity is one of the things that we can all do to contribute to an inclusive and supportive workplace.
Through education we are helping to break the cycle of domestic and family violence. We are teaching children to recognise the signs of violence and where to get help. We’re educating young people about respectful, inclusive relationships.
As part of our induction process, all employees complete a White Ribbon Australia training module to understand domestic and family violence and support colleagues, students and families who may be experiencing violence.
Why we are committed
We are committed to ending domestic and family violence because it’s a problem in our communities. In Australia:
- 1 in 2 women have experienced being sexually harassed
- women are almost 3 times more likely than men to have experienced violence inflicted by a partner since the age of 15
- 1 in 4 children are exposed to domestic and family violence.
