A new chapter for Avenues College
A new chapter for a school with a 122-year pedigree in Adelaide’s north-eastern suburbs has begun following the formal opening of the $9.7m redevelopment works on Avenues College.
Although completed in early 2020, the formal celebration was delayed due to COVID restrictions.
Avenues College, which caters for children from birth to year 12, is the result of a merger between Windsor Gardens Secondary College, Gilles Plains Primary School and Gilles Plains Children's Centre in 2017.
A new children’s centre, including a preschool, has been constructed on the site, along with the addition of outdoor learning areas for children of all ages.
“Our school history dates back to 1901, and these improvements will ensure our community can continue to build a long-lasting legacy," said Avenues College Principal Hamish McDonald.
“Now that we have consolidated onto a single site, we are excited about the great potential ahead of for our students learning and growth.”
Existing classrooms have been refurbished to support contemporary teaching, and the existing school reception area has been upgraded to provide suitable space for a range of student support services.
