Country students provided technology to jump digital divide
A $10 million technology upgrade at schools in country South Australia has rolled out across the regions.
More than 216 schools have had upgrades to the Information and Computer Technology (ICT) system and infrastructure.
The work has been done to ensure schools and preschools have the best possible ICT infrastructure to support improved teaching and learning by improving access to high-speed fibre optic internet across the site.
Among the schools that have received an upgrade is Yorketown Area School, funded through the Country Education Strategy.
Yorketown Area School received new cabling across the site, an upgraded wireless network and new connectivity to its agricultural site.
Other ICT upgrades in the Yorke Peninsula included Wallaroo Mines Primary School, Stansbury Primary School, Yorketown Area School, and Moonta Area School most recently completed as part of the Country Education Strategy.
The Country Education Strategy is a $15 million investment over the next three years that will deliver a range of initiatives to support pre-service teachers to experience a placement in the country and learn vital skills and networks for their long-term teaching career.
The Department for Education offers a range of incentives for teachers who make the move to the country, which includes relocation and housing support, country incentive payments, and professional development opportunities.
The State Government will also make the country allowance ongoing, as well as increasing teacher permanency by 10%.
