An almost $21 million school expansion has begun in Adelaide’s inner north with a sod turning at Roma Mitchell Secondary College.

The multi-million expansion will allow the school to accommodate an additional 180 students, as well as ensure a renewed focus on sports.

The project will include the construction of a new 2-court gymnasium designed to international competition standards, change rooms and amenities, six classrooms, teacher prep areas, a first aid room, a canteen and a cafeteria.

Once completed, the school’s capacity will increase to 2,114 students. It’s expected the building work will be complete by the end of this year, ready to welcome new students in Term 1 of next year.

Roma Mitchell Secondary College consists of four campuses – the girls’ campus, a separate co-education middle campus and senior campus, and a special education campus – all located on the one site at Gepps Cross.

Roma Mitchell Secondary College Principal Toni Carellas said the first sod turn is a significant milestone in this next phase of expansion at Roma Mitchell Secondary College.

"The new state-of-the-art facilities will allow us to welcome more students in the future and meet their growing educational needs".
