Five new technical colleges will be built in South Australia, with the first at Findon High School to open by the start of the 2024 school year. The remaining 4 will open by 2026.
The other 2 metropolitan technical colleges will be located at Heights High School in the north-east and the site of Tonsley TAFE SA. There will also be 2 regional technical colleges in Port Augusta and Mt Gambier.
The Locations were selected to meet the highest demand to ensure young people develop the skills employers need.
The technical colleges will support students in years 10 to 12 to complete their SACE while getting a vocational education and training (VET) qualification. They will provide students with more career choices and be housed in brand new buildings with state-of-the art technology.
Each college will be tailored to the needs of its local industry, region and community to ensure meaningful pathways from education to work.
“Technical Colleges provide a great foundation for industry to engage with students, provide early hands-on exposure to new industrial technologies, and support career connections,” said Georgette Elston, Head of Resourcing and Early Careers, BAE Systems.
