New footbridge a step up for Mawson Lakes School
Mawson Lakes School has a new footbridge, joining the two Mawson Lakes School campuses.
The footbridge, which will officially be opened today, spans across the council-owned Dry Creek Reserve to connect two parcels of school land.
The area has been affected by flooding in the past which has made the old footbridge impossible for staff and students to use and move between different buildings on campus.
Work to construct a new 62.5m long footbridge began last year, with the $940,000 project co-funded by the Education Department and the City of Salisbury.
The new bridge features lighting and safety upgrades designed to withstand future flooding events, as well as providing improved accessibility for the school community.
“On the occasions when there’s been flooding along the Dry Creek Reserve, we implement a contingency plan to ensure the safety of students, staff and the wider school community."
“This footbridge will mean that is no longer required, and we will be able to move around the site safely all year round,” said David Cowles, Principal, Mawson Lakes School
