New gym officially opened at Memorial Oval Primary School
Memorial Oval Primary School in Whyalla has undergone $2.1m facility upgrade.
The project has delivered a new gymnasium which includes a canopy and foyer area, an office, storeroom, and a court for basketball and netball.
Building works were completed in November 2022, allowing the school to start making use of the facility from the start of Term 1 this year.
Affectionately known as MOPS, the Memorial Oval Primary School currently has 251 enrolled students who are all benefiting from the new gym.
Large enough to accommodate all of the school’s staff and students under a single roof, the school can now proudly hold whole-school assemblies with space to invite parents to join in as well.
The school values its partnerships with the wider community, and there are plans to open the doors of the gym to the public in the future.
“The gym has been a very beneficial addition to our school, and it has been a busy space all year from hosting ‘meet and greet’ events with our families, to student dances and games”, said Memorial Oval Primary School Principal Linda Weetra.
“It’s also allowed us to branch out into some indoor sports in our physical education lessons such as volleyball and gymnastics, which our students have thoroughly enjoyed.”
