Parents in Education funding supports parent engagement to make schools safer

10 February 2025

More than $80,000 will be shared across 22 South Australian government schools and preschools to engage parents in their child’s education.

The latest round of successful applicants for Parents in Education (PiE) funding has been announced for the 2025 school year.

Projects with a focus on supporting safe and inclusive learning environments for all students through strengthening family, community and school partnerships were given priority in this latest round.

Among this year’s successful applicants is Ocean View College Children’s Centre in Taperoo. After noticing an increasing number of grandparents regularly doing the morning drop-off and afternoon pick-ups, the Centre made the decision to develop a group dedicated to supporting grandparents to confidently care for their grandchildren.

Another funding recipient, Christie Downs Primary School, plan to build an outdoor Wellbeing Hub with multiple stations designed by students to create safe spaces to talk and play. The Hub will also be used to host parent workshops.

In regional SA, Glossop Community School will establish a “Grub Club”, bringing parents and students together with food to build connections by growing produce to create healthy meals together.

Department for Education Chief Executive Professor Martin Westwell said, Parents in Education funding helps government schools and preschools to develop initiatives to better connect parents and carers with their child’s education.

“Each of the successful projects has a focus on making schools and preschools safer and more inclusive for students through parent-led initiatives”.

“Through effective parent engagement, educators can effectively boost student engagement in the classroom, while also creating a richer, more diverse school community”, Professor Westwell said.

Up to $5,000 in funding is available for each parent engagement project to help parents and carers get involved in their child’s education and support learning at home through positive relationships with schools.

The full list of successful applicants in the 2025 Parents in Education funding, which includes 17 schools and 5 preschools, is available on the Department for Education website.
