Almost 900 South Australian students attended the Year13 digital careers expo this year to explore future career options and connect with South Australian industry partners.
The South Australian Government-funded event included 26 industry partners and is all part of the VET for school students policy, which aims to enhance career education and connect today’s learners with future jobs.
It was an opportunity for students to learn directly from employers about career pathways across a wide range of industries and occupations, including those linked to Flexible Industry Pathways.
South Australian industry partners included defence and naval ship building companies BAE Systems and Naval Group Australia, cyber security company Accenture and a range of industry associations including the South Australian Master Builders and Master Plumbers associations.
Students heard from guest speakers such as Dr Karl Kruszelnicki, former Facebook Australia and New Zealand CEO Stephen Scheeler and World Champion pro-surfer Laura Enever.
The event webinars will be available to schools to access on demand for students who were unable to attend the live event.
The Department for Education is working with students, schools and families to broaden community awareness and understanding of the value and opportunities that a vocational pathway can offer.
