School ‘kiss & drop’ makes good on promise
A new school ‘kiss and drop’ zone, constructed to improve student safety and free up traffic congestion around a busy R-12 school in Adelaide’s inner west, has officially opened.
The zone is just one part of signification redevelopment work at the R-12 Plympton International College which has also seen improved parking facilities for the school, and classroom upgrades.
Concept design planning is currently underway for a further $14 million State Government funded upgrade which will take place at the site to ensure future capacity at the popular school, while the school itself is delivering a new nature play space and has committed $2.2 million to a gym renovation and classroom build.
The ongoing capital works at the school are to provide additional accommodation to address enrolment growth and provide new, contemporary teaching and learning facilities.
The school currently has about 900 students, but once all the work is completed, the school’s expected capacity will be 1200 students.
The ‘kiss and drop’ zone, open 8-9am and 2.15pm-3.30pm allows parents to safely and efficiently drop off and collect students.
The new traffic management arrangement is a single entry and exit off Myer Avenue on the western side of the school. Teachers are on duty during specific times to assist.
Plympton International College Principal Amy Whyte said it is fantastic to celebrate the completion of this important work, and at the same time acknowledge the further developments which are taking place at our college.
"This is the result of collaborative work by our Governing Council in conjunction with our local MP, governing council, college contributions and with the support of the State Government".
"I’m very excited by the developments and expansion work that is taking place at our school, which is a case of short-term disruption for the realisation of our upgrades for our whole college community".
