A resource available through the website or an app which supports students to learn Japanese kanji at their own pace. Save the turtles from the wani kani (alligator crab) by completing the lessons and review activities.
Structure and features
Get students to access the 'WaniKani' website.
Students work at their own pace through daily lessons. The learning begins with kanji radicals (the building block of kanji) before moving on to kanji and vocabulary. It uses mnemonics and spaced repetition to support long term memorisation. Some sections are free but there is a cost to access all features. There is a community chat section which is moderated by the site.
For teachers
Teachers can ask students to send screen shots of their progress. The resource is structured around sequential learning, so you can’t assign sets of kanji.
Please note that there is a community chat section, so discussing with students rules about access to this or keeping safe online is advised.
