This page details the process and cost for your school to become affiliated with School Sport SA. School Sport SA gives students the opportunity to take part in a variety of sports at all different levels.
South Australian government and non-government schools must be affiliated to enter students from year 4 to 13 (under 20 years old on 1 January 2024) to take part in School Sport SA events.
Primary schools – year 4 to 6
Your school must pay a fee to the district finance school to affiliate. This fee is in addition to any competition fees for all district or School Sport SA events. The fee is made up of 2 parts
School Sport SA affiliation fee
- Government schools - $1.21 per student including GST
- Non-government schools $2.08 per student including GST
District levy
- The district levy is set in consultation with the schools in the district.
- Is based on a per capita rate that considers the districts income and expenditure to deliver the school sport program for the schools within the district. For example, trials and day carnivals.
An invoice will be sent to you once costs are confirmed.
Secondary schools – year 7 to 13
Your school must pay a fee to School Sport SA to affiliate. This fee is in addition to any competition fees for all School Sport SA events.
To affiliate you need to:
- determine your category of affiliation and associated fee as outlined below.
- complete the affiliation form to receive you confirmation invoice.
- pay the fee by electronic funds transfer (EFT) or cheque as outlined on the form.
Due date for applications
Affiliation form and fees are due by Wednesday 10 April 2024.
Categories for secondary schools
Category 1
Government schools – $368.00 including GST
Non-government schools – $735.00 including GST
Category 1 schools can compete in up to 5 events listed below, nominate students for interstate competitions and compete in specific events for students with disability.
- Zone competition – equates to 1 activity
- Statewide schools term 1 (including cricket) – equates to 1 activity
- Statewide schools term 2 - equates to 1 activity
- Statewide schools term 3 – equates to 1 activity
- Statewide schools term 4 – equates to 1 activity
- Cross country and ekiden relay – equates to 1 activity
- Cycling and mountain bike – equates to 1 activity
- Golf (teams stableford, individual and under 14/under 16 event) – equates to 1 activity
- Surfing – equates to 1 activity
- Swimming – equates to 1 activity
- Tennis – equates to 1 activity
- Track and field – equates to 1 activity
- Triathlon – equates to 1 activity
Category 2
Government schools – $1.21 per student including GST
Non-government schools – $2.08 per student including GST
Category 2 schools can compete in an unlimited number of activities, nominate students for interstate competitions and compete in specific events for students with disability.
The official enrolment figure determined at the end of February must be used to calculate the capitation fee, not the number of students involved in secondary activities.
This capitation fee is often suited to small schools.
Category 3
Government schools – $84.00 including GST
Non-government schools – $154.00 including GST
Category 3 schools can only nominate students for interstate competitions. Schools will still receive secondary activity information.
Category 4
Government schools – $25.00 including GST
Non-government schools – $55.50 including GST
Category 4 schools can enter in
- specific events for students with disability, including interstate competitions.
- 1 activity with 2 or less students participating.
