Support for students with disability to transition from school to work

Transition programs are available to give eligible students with disability tailored career education. The programs help students develop the skills to successfully transition from school to employment or further education.

Students will:

  • connect with employers
  • gain work preparation, work readiness skills and work experience
  • participate in industry and employer immersion
  • have recognition of learning to complete the SACE
  • be supported to access School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES)
  • transition to a pathway of employment or further education.

Eligibility

Programs are for students in the final year of completing their SACE who are:

  • seeking a transition to employment or further education
  • enrolled and going to school at a minimum of 70% attendance
  • receiving or seeking National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) support
  • travelling independently or have the capacity to travel independently
  • enrolled in SACE and on track for completion.

Program structure

Transition programs:

  • are delivered from locations in Noarlunga, Adelaide and Elizabeth.
  • are delivered by teachers and assisted by specialised disability support staff
  • require students to attend 1 day a week for up to 40 weeks
  • have class sizes up to 12 students.

Disability Transition Advisers support schools and lead career education for students with disability. This includes identifying and developing appropriate SACE curriculum pathways (PDF 86 KB) .

Referrals to the program

To refer a student, complete the application form (PDF 305 KB) and return it to the student’s school. The school will progress the application.

Referrals are accepted throughout the year in a rolling intake.
