Asbestos management in schools, preschools and corporate office

On this page

Asbestos may still be located in many items or facilities at SA government schools and preschools. Asbestos containing materials (ACM) in buildings and facilities is predominantly of the bonded and non-friable type. If in good condition and left undisturbed it will not create a risk to the health and safety of individuals.

Annual inspections of all schools and preschools are undertaken by the Facilities Management Service Provider and an asbestos register maintained at each site.

The asbestos management procedure (PDF 731 KB) helps schools, early childhood services and corporate services to effectively manage the risks associated with the presence and removal of asbestos and ACM in buildings and facilities in line with legislative requirements.

Department staff can refer to the asbestos safety intranet page for more information on managing asbestos at schools and preschools.
