Cancelling water safety programs

On this page

Swimming and Aquatics programs and lessons that are cancelled can't normally be rescheduled because instructors are offered employment on the basis of confirmed bookings.

Extenuating circumstances

Unforeseen extreme situations that are beyond the school’s control may be valid reasons for rescheduling. If a centre believes extenuating circumstances apply to a cancellation they should discuss it with the Manager, Sport and Water Safety.

Examples of situations where extenuating circumstances may be applicable include:

  • Centre cancelling due to problems with the water quality – rescheduling allowed, where it is possible to do so.
  • Catastrophic bushfire day for school in risk area and school not allowed to travel – rescheduling allowed where it is possible to do so.
  • Bus breaks down on the way to program – rescheduling likely to be allowed, where it is possible to do so, after application is made to the Manager, Sport and Water Safety.

Hot weather

Schools should consider if their hot weather policies could have an impact on their participation. For example, if the hot weather policy setting is low (eg 34°C) and the program is scheduled over summer months, there is a higher chance that lessons will be cancelled.

Rescheduling will result in charges to the school.

Schools should discuss this with the instructor-in-charge.

Rescheduling

Rescheduling can only occur if approval is given by the Manager, Sport and Water Safety, and where it is possible to do so.
