All Department for Education water safety instructors must hold a current ‘provide first aid’ qualification (course code HLTAID011) .
This qualification must be renewed every 3 years and is required for all:
- aquatics instructors
- swimming instructors
- surf education instructors.
Where to attend first aid training
You must attend first aid training with a national training authority accredited training provider.
The following providers are nationally accredited to deliver 'provide first aid' (HLTAID011) training:
- 4 Life training
- Australian National First Aid Services (ANFAS)
- Australian Red Cross
- Parasol EMT
- St John Ambulance
- Surf Life Saving SA
- First Aid Training Adelaide CBD.
If you attend a course with a different provider, you’ll need to show proof of their accreditation with your training certification.
Providing evidence of your first aid qualification
You’ll need to provide evidence of your first aid qualification, so we know your training is up to date.
To provide evidence, you need to:
- new instructors – attach a copy of your certificate to your application
- current instructors renewing their qualification – email a copy of your updated certificate to educationswimaquatics@sa.gov.au.
