Partners professional learning

Gowrie SA offers a range of customised professional development and a Learning Calendar .

Queensland Children’s Activity Network (QCAN) offer training and information webinars for OSHC professionals titled Webinar Wednesdays. They are held each Wednesday during school term.

ACECQA has developed a collection of resources and supporting materials including:

Education Standards Board (ESB) has developed a webinar on Educational program and practice for OSHC which includes subject matter experts from the OSHC sector.

Inclusive educational programs for children with disability sponsored by the NSW Department of Education's Sector Development Program, presented by Special Teaching and Research (STaR).

Inclusion in Out of School Hours Care Services (webinar 6) – is a 90 minute webinar that clearly identifies key considerations to inclusion in OSHC such as:

  • What is inclusion? and how is the child supported to participate in OSHC to ensure positive outcomes which underpins National Quality Framework
  • Potential barriers to access and potential solutions to these barriers
  • Service policy to Inclusion
  • Working in collaboration with families to support participation (case study examples).
  • Children’s participation and engagement and how this can be achieved.

OSHCsa Facebook page advertises professional learning opportunities for OSHC members and non-members.

Plink

OSHC educators have access to a range of self-paced content on Plink - the Department for Education’s professional learning system.

Content will continue to be expanded. Current content includes:

  • OSHC Educator induction
  • Risk management in OSHC
  • Strategies for Managing Abuse Related Trauma (SMART)
  • Protective practices
  • Bullying prevention
  • Cultural awareness
  • Gender diversity
  • Productive relationships - beyond the behaviour.

To access the OSHC content in Plink, educators need to register with personal or non-schools email addresses in the Non-Department for Education section. Simply create a plink account with a personal email address and select “OSHC staff” as the account type when prompted.

Promoting healthy eating in OSHC

Training and programs | Healthy Eating Advisory Service offer free online training in how to plan healthy menus and promote healthy eating in your OSHC service.

To meet the New ‘Food Safety Standard’ the OSHC service must complete the Food Safety Training Course (free online) by December 2023.

OSHC service are Category 1 businesses and are required to implement all 3 food safety management tools:

  1. make sure all food handlers have completed a food safety training course or can demonstrate their food handling skills and knowledge
  2. appoint a certified food safety supervisor and ensure they are reasonably available when the business handles potentially hazardous foods
  3. ensure you can demonstrate to an authorised officer that you have complied with prescribed provisions (including temperature control of potentially hazardous foods at all stages and sanitising).
