How to find a family day care service

Search the Care for Kids website for family day care availability.

Register your interest to enrol

To register your interest in a family day care service, complete the family day care enquiry form or contact us directly 8343 6533.

The family day care team will work with you to suggest providers suitable for your needs.

You can visit the service and meet educators to guide you through the best option for you and your family.

Once you’ve selected the service that’s right for you, the family day care team can provide support through the registration and enrolment process.

Immunisation requirements

Under legislation, your child will not be able to enrol in or attend early childhood services unless all immunisation requirements are met (No Jab, No Play).

This means that your child’s current immunisation records will need to be provided when you enrol them into their new family day care service.

See immunisation requirements for early childhood services for more information about what you need to do.

Child development checks

Your child can have a free  child development check for children (PDF 697 KB) with a trained screener at their family day care premises.

You can attend in person, participate by phone or video call or the check can be done with the support of your child’s educator.

Child development checks look at how a child is progressing in:

  • communication
  • physical ability
  • social skills
  • problem solving skills.

A child development check can help to identify your child’s developmental needs and help you understand what you can do to support their development in the early years.

If you’re interested in receiving a child development check for your child, complete the consent form. A staff member will be in contact with you to make an appointment time.

Please note a child development check is separate from a health assessment. A health assessment is completed by a medical professional such as a doctor or nurse (including Child and Family Health Service).

Virtual child development checks

If your child has had a child development check through your family day care service, using the ASQ-3 in the last 12-months, you may be eligible for a second free virtual child development check with a trained screener.

If eligible, you will automatically receive an email invite.

If you are interested in receiving a virtual check for your child complete the virtual check consent form. We will contact you to make an appointment and provide you with more information about what you need to do to prepare for the virtual check.
