Australian Dance Archives of the National Library of Australia

This resource collection will assist students with in-depth research related to questions or inquiries into Australian dance. It is best suited to students in years 10-12 and independent learners.

    Structure and features

    The National Library of Australia website contains an extensive range of archival materials including oral histories, pictures, photos, newspaper articles and reviews and personal documents. The website also contains includes documents and images, posters, repertoire names with dates and choreographers, portraits, interviews, photographs, theatre programmes, historical and contemporary dance reviews. Content is organised by the types of resources:

    • journals, articles and data sets
    • digitised newspapers
    • government gazettes
    • music, sound and video
    • diaries letters, archives
    • archived websites
    • people and organisations.

    Resources contain information about the Australian Dance Theatre, Ballet Russe, Borovansky Ballet, and Bodenwieser.

    For students

    2. Identify primary and secondary resources to examine, in response to a given question or inquiry about Australian dance.
    3. Follow recommended links and pathways.
    4. Record notes and references.
    5. Include information in your written or multi-modal response to a specific question or inquiry.

     

    Teacher notes

    The site will assist teachers and senior students in the responding strand of Australian Curriculum Dance and in SACE Dance.

    This is a comprehensive research site that is sophisticated in its content and structure. Consequently it is less appropriate for younger students.

    Students compiling bibliographies and reference lists will find citations included with most resources.
