Writing plays and drama scripts

Is it easy to come up with ideas for a character or a story? Where can you look for inspiration?

Think about all the everyday things you do. Travelling to school, going shopping or eating in a cafe could provide you with all the material you need. In this short video, four playwrights came up with unique ideas for a play while travelling through Sydney on the 428 bus.

Structure and features

Students can:

  • watch the video and answer the provided questions (this can be done in writing, orally, or in an online discussions with peers)
  • create a short script or self-devised performance work for one or two characters
  • send the script to peers for feedback
  • refine the script based on feedback
  • submit their script to the teacher.
