Learning tasks

On KidsNews students can:

• search for articles related to special interests, learning areas or current events for all learning areas
• choose an article and explore the use of traditional media conventions of headings, photos, captions, graphics and prose, as well online audio and video elements
• engage a friend or family member in discussion about that topic, helping each other recognise and understand different perspectives
• expand  local and world knowledge in a way that supports vocabulary, reading and writing achievement.

Articles are graded as:

• green (easier)
• amber (middle)
• red (hardest).

For each news article there are:

• glossaries
• questions
• an audio reading of the article
• discussion starters
• sometimes related videos.
