The website features an image for every day of the year, and each image is comes with story starters, questions and grammar challenges. Some of the pictures are targeted at younger students but many will appeal to a broader audience. This is a free site but a subscription will allow teachers to upload their students' writing or download other students’ writing from around the world.
Structure and features
Students can:
- analyse images
- answer the questions to show they understand the images
- build their vocabulary with others so that their writing is more precise – for example, saying 'Akubra' instead of 'hat' creates a more specific picture
- create character backgrounds and goals to drive a story
- build narrative structure on their own or with others
- do some creative writing
- imagine and discuss different perspectives – who might see this differently? what might happen immediately before or after this image?
- use their grammar knowledge with suggestions for parts of speech and improving the sentences provided.
