This resource explores how suburban communities are impacted when they have no access, or low access, to sporting facilities. Students can investigate how important these places are to them and their community.
Structure and features
This resource contains a ABC video report that explores the impact of living in a place with few places to play. It also has a list of things for students to think about, and a transcript.
Learning opportunities
A video report presents the problem along with a list of questions for students to consider before viewing the video, as they view, and after viewing. The next steps section prompts students to analyse opportunities in their local community for people to be active.
For students
- Australians love their sport and like to be active. What happens if you live in a place with few places to play?
- Think about your local area.
- Does it have open spaces, sports fields and courts to play team sports?
- What about places to swim?
