This resource is a presentation and accompanying activities that explore the importance of the places that students' live.
Structure and features
- The PowerPoint presentation is for showing to students. You can access the first 5 slides which are sufficient, or create a free account to download the complete 21 slide presentation - People live in places Powerpoint presentation.
- With some adult help, students can represent their home by drawing a simple map showing a range of features which can be labelled. A neighbour’s home can also be on the story map.
- With adult support, students can find their family home using Google Earth and then take time to look at houses in that and other streets - Google Earth.
Students can talk about and record their understanding of:
- houses are places we live in
- houses have many features and there are many different types of houses
- houses have many different features like being 2-storey, having a garden or front fence and window shutters
- homes provide people with basic needs including safety where you can eat, sleep, play, belong and keep warm, cool and protected
- people who live in houses make up different types of families
- our home is on the land of Aboriginal people, for example the land of the Kaurna people if you live in the Adelaide plains.
