Learn German with the Goethe Institut

Students can improve their German skills through a range of courses from Goethe Institute. Activities incorporate images, videos, audio and written materials, and clearly identify the level and topic covered. Students can save activities to their own learning content library.

Content descriptions are mostly in German, so beginning students may find this site difficult to navigate.

Structure and features

Access the 'Deutsch fur dich (German for you)' website. Students will need to register to use the site, but this is free.

  • Students and teachers can filter content by their level, what skills they are targeting, the topic and the format (eg. video, audio, text).
  • The content covers a range of levels from A1 (beginner) to C (Advanced).
  • Please note that there are forum and messaging areas in the site. While these can support peer collaboration, students and teachers need be aware of the risks and practice cyber-safety protocols.

For teachers

Use the filters to source relevant learning materials for your students, or allow students to direct their own learning by choosing topics of interest at the appropriate level. Students can create online presentations based on their individualised learning, and share back with peers through structured sharing time on school online learning platforms.
