Data sampling

This is a digital object that simulates fruit jube packing.

Structure and features

Open the link and follow the instructions on the screen.

Test a machine that randomly packages 2 or 3 types of fruit jubes: penguin, fish and frog. Choose the ratio that each jube type is likely to be produced in a packet of 12 jubes. For example, choose a 2:1 ratio so that penguin jubes are twice as likely to be produced as fish jubes. See the variation in random samples.

For teachers

This learning object is 1 in a series of 17 objects. You can ask students to write a reflection on their experimentation and what they learned about random sampling and variation.
