Desmos interactive activities in statistics

Desmos is an interactive learning space where teachers invite students to participate with a class code. The tasks require students to enter responses, move digital objects and in some cases provide reasons as to why they selected the answer. The teacher is able to manage the digital classroom from their dashboard and track student progress.

Structure and features

In this activity, students complete 3 rounds of estimation challenges. After each initial estimate, they view a dot plot of their classmates' responses and decide whether (and how) to revise their estimate. Common strategies include moving towards the middle (ie the median)

Desmos also offers collections of related activities available to support students' learning in a specific content area. One such collection of 10 activities is middle school statistics.

Teacher notes

The attached document, Desmos instructions, outlines how to create and manage an account. Learn Desmos provides a range of short, simple videos to support teachers to maximise the benefit of this powerful, free, multi-purpose, mathematical online platform.
