Children love to sing. Here are some links to get families singing at home with their children.
Structure and features
For families
Children love singing because it is fun. It is also a good learning opportunity. Singing helps children learn to recognise sounds, develop their sense of rhythm and rhyme and develop pattern awareness.
Baby karaoke has lots of animated videos with words and music for popular children's songs. Families can use these videos to sing karaoke together at home. There are even baby karaoke songsheets if families just want the lyrics of a song without the video.
When families go to the website they can:
- find the song their child wants to sing
- select either the link for the video of the song with lyrics or karaoke style
- sing along.
It won't be long until children can run their own karaoke sessions with their favourite songs.
Here are some well known songs that families can use as a starting point.
Here are the songs with lyrics:
- Children of the Dreaming (with lyrics)
- Five little ducks (with lyrics)
- Inanay (with lyrics)
- Native animal song (with lyrics)
- Little green frog (with lyrics)

For teachers
Teachers can share these links with families so that can use them to sing at home.
Singing supports literacy skills by helping children recognise sounds and develop their sense of rhythm and rhyme. Singing also helps children learn numeracy skills through the development of pattern awareness.
