Water rockets

In this science investigation you will build and test 2 water rockets to enable you to identify factors that affect forces and motion.

Follow up by viewing the video on Newton's Third Law, this may help you with your explanation.

Structure and features

Follow the instructions and there is a worksheet to complete before you start your investigation.

Your aim is to learn about Newton's 3 laws of motion.

At the conclusion of your investigation, write a post flight mission report that incorporates:

  • the various materials used
  • rocket design sketches and descriptions
  • redesigns
  • methods and reasoning used
  • outcomes
  • suggestions for future flights.

Teacher notes

  • Science inquiry skills
  • Physical sciences
  • Year 10
  • Forces and motion.

Students learn about Newton's 3 laws of motion through designing and testing water rockets.

In this science investigation, students identify variables being tested, plan and conduct the investigation, capture the data to analyse, and draw a conclusion in regards to Newton's 3 laws.
