Exploring AI and EdChat

Through the Orbis AI Online Learning dashboard, you can learn more about AI and the Department for Education’s custom-built AI assistant, EdChat. Access easy-to-follow microlearnings, practical tips, spotlights and presentations.

You’ll hear from department employees who are already using generative AI and EdChat to:

• create clearer, more engaging learning materials so learners better understand expectations
• create and modify images using text prompts
• apply simple frameworks for writing effective prompts.

About EdChat

EdChat is a generative AI chatbot, developed by the department in partnership with Microsoft. EdChat was co-designed with educators and students through a proof of concept in 2023 and 2024, ahead of its launch to in term 4, 2024.

Unlike general-purpose AI chatbots, EdChat includes enhanced safety and privacy features to ensure it’s suitable for use in public education. It’s tailored to South Australian schools and designed to:

• improve data security
• protect learners from accessing inappropriate content
