The program is designed to support you to thrive in your first school or preschool leadership role, developing adaptive leadership, ethical decision making, human connection, and the ability to engage hearts and minds. You’ll strengthen evidence-informed leadership practices and build the relationships needed to confidently lead people and learning.

Learning outcomes

Throughout the program, you’ll:

  • strengthen your leadership capabilities outlined in the department’s Leadership Capability Framework (LCF) to lead your school or preschool and community with clarity and confidence
  • broaden and deepen your professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions to align with the department’s vision for public education
  • drive improvements in student learning, wellbeing, equity, and inclusion by understanding your school or preschool as an interconnected system
  • apply contemporary educational research and future-focused innovation to inform, challenge, and strengthen your leadership practice
  • Prioritise and sustain your own health and wellbeing through reflection, connection, and supportive professional relationships widening your network of experienced leaders and peers.

The program days encompass the theory and practice of the 4 interrelated capabilities of school leadership outlined in the LCF, enabling you to successfully grow your skills to adapt and lead in your unique context.

Key program components:

  • four program days aligned to the LCF capabilities of adaptive leadership, ethical decision making, human connecting, and engaging hearts and minds
  • two-day finance training
  • webinars aligned to key site leader priorities
  • mentoring with a Leader Advisor.

Eligibility

First-time principals or preschool directors appointed for 6 months or more are eligible to participate in the program.

Program costs

Orbis pays for:

  • program fees and material costs
  • up to 24 hours of mentoring support from an experienced Leader Advisor
  • catered lunch, tea and coffee on program days
  • travel and accommodation for regional participants.

Schools and preschools arrange and pay for TRTs to cover participants on program days, as required.

How to enrol

If you’re eligible for the program, you’ll automatically be enrolled. You’ll then receive instructions on how to register for the individual face-to-face days and your finance training via email upon enrolment.
